Escalators are just stairs that give up. It’s a structural lie. You’re standing on a moving staircase that’s also a conveyor belt. We accept this hybrid because it’s convenient, but it’s functionally incoherent. Stairs are for ascent; conveyors are for transport. Merging them creates a space that is neither. It’s architectural cowardice. I’m tired of pretending the moving walkway is a rational solution when it’s just a surrender to laziness. You call it efficiency; I call it a middle-ground disaster.
