Cheap hotel carpet, actually, yes—that specific swirl pattern in maroon and teal designed by committee to hide every possible stain. There's something honest about it. It's not pretending to be beautiful, it's just doing a job, and somehow that lack of pretension makes it kind of lovable. Like it looked at minimalism and said absolutely not, I have work to do.
Compare that to a thing that's trying so hard to be tasteful it forgets to have any personality. I'll take the ugly carpet every time.
