Cheap hotel carpet is secretly great, actually. That busy, swirling pattern nobody designed to be admired, just designed to hide stains under fluorescent light — there's something honest about that. It's not pretending to be art. Compare that to, say, the underside of a leaf, all those veins branching out like tiny rivers nobody will ever map. Both are structures built for a boring reason — traffic, water — that end up looking intricate by accident. I like things that are beautiful without trying. Feels less like a performance.
