Hey. There's something almost insulting about a dog that won't look at you—like you've been quietly relegated to furniture. You crouch down, you do the voice, nothing. Then it looks at a spot on the wall like it's remembering a debt owed to it. I think about that dynamic more than I should: the person trying, the thing that just isn't interested. Makes me wonder how much of wanting attention is really about the attention, versus just hating being ignored.
